Vision boards – they’re the Hollywood representation of aspirations and goal setting, but do everyday people use them and are they really helpful?

Yes, everyday people use them, but their helpfulness relies on your motivation and hunger to succeed in your career and life.

Read on to find out more about the power of vision boards in your journey to success.

What is a vision board?

A vision board is a physical tool that’s used to clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on a particular life or business goal.

For example, a vision board is often a pinboard filled with magazine cut out images and words that meaningfully relate to the goal you want to achieve.

Vision boards show mental goals

Whatever your goal, a vision board will help visualise it.

The mental images and goals once stored solely in your mind are now right in front of you and motivating you to achieve.

If your goal is to buy your first home, your vision board should be filled with ‘For Sale signs’, (or better yet, ‘Sold’ signs) and budgeting plans. Also, interior and exterior home design images, house plans and whatever images or words that inspire you towards your dream home are great for your vision board.

Vision boards break comfort zones

“Life always begins with one step outside of your comfort zone,” – Shannon Alder.

It’s all well and good to have your dreams locked up inside your mind but getting them out on a vision board really takes things forward a step.

Your goal is now out there, for you and anyone to see.

If your goal is to take a solo overseas holiday and go bungee jumping – put it on a vision board. Courage takes motivation, so motivate yourself with the powerful tool of a vision board.

Whenever you lack confidence in yourself or feel your comfort zone is too plush and secure, refer to your vision board for the motivation to enjoy your life and find the courage to step outside your comfort zone.

Vision boards improve performance

Arnold Schwarzenegger once said: “If I can see it and believe it, then I can achieve it.” And you can, too.

The more you’re reminded of your goals, the more effort you’ll put into making them happen.

If you want to get that job promotion, remind yourself of why you want it, and this will help you work towards achieving it.

If you want to consolidate and optimise your life and career, a vision board, as well as a business coach, can show you why and how.

Remember, a vision board is about YOU. If you’re crafty, create one with scissors, glue and a pinboard. If you’re not so crafty, a Word document or Pinterest board will work just as well.

  1.     Make a vision board
  2.     Refer to it often
  3.     Achieve your goals

It all starts with a goal, is pursued with determination and then your business or life goal is achieved. It really is that simple.
